Therapy

I have experience working with people who have the following diagnoses:

  • Anxiety (including Social Anxiety Disorder)

  • Attachment Disorders

  • Autism Spectrum (high functioning only: formerly called Asperger's Syndrome)

  • Bipolar

  • Delusional Disorders (including Schizophrenia)

  • Depression

  • Dissociative Disorders

  • Existential Angst (which mimics Depression, but calls for different treatment)

  • Gender Dysphoria

  • Paraphilic Disorders (Kink)

  • Somatic Symptoms

  • Trauma Disorders (including PTSD, Complex PTSD, and Minority Stress Syndrome)

[You may notice that this list is more clinical than the list on the page About Me.  That list is more inclusive by design.]

I do not work with people who have a Personality Disorder without other symptoms.  However, about ⅓ of those diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder actually have Complex PTSD (CPTSD), which I am trained to work with.

Credentials:

  • Somatic Experiencing (SE) Therapy:  I am one of 32 SE-trained therapists listed in Washington State and one of the few in Olympia (2021 numbers).  I infuse body-based work in most of my sessions.  For more about, SE click here.

  • Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS):  I am mentoring under one of the early senior trainers in the IFS movement.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):  This approach works with the more rational parts of the brain and includes learning important information that is based on research.  CBT was a major focus of my Masters program.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy:  Focuses on applying successful strategies from your past to your present situation.  Masters program.

  • Narrative Therapy:  Works directly with the more primitive parts of your brain to reduce pain of prior experiences.  Masters program.

  • Exposure Therapy:  Works to overcome social anxiety and phobias.  Masters program.
